Bonding

Dental bonding is a procedure that covers enamel and enamel defects. A surface etchant is applied to a roughened tooth surface and then a liquid bonding agent is brushed over. A filled resin composite putty like material is placed over and formed to the shape of the tooth. The material is hardened with a light that activates the material and sets it.

The surface is then shaped and polished to match the tooth. Bonding can be used to fill in holes at the gum line, repair chipped or stained teeth, reshape teeth and close spaces between front teeth. The material is best used for small areas that are not under a lot of stress and have limited biting or chewing forces.
